McKechnie Aluminium Solutions – Warehouse rebuild
New Plymouth, Taranaki
Jeff Van Winkel Project Director, McKechnie Aluminium SolutionsFor us, getting the site running as quickly as possible and allowing the rebuild to happen within a working factory was critical. FPC understood that very well, and made sure that none of the work they were doing interrupted our production.

The challenge
When Kiwi aluminium joinery manufacturer, McKechnie Aluminium Solutions, returned from their Christmas shutdown in January 2020, they discovered a fire had burned a major hole through the middle of their factory. The company had to get back to business as usual as quickly as possible. Not only that, they needed production to continue throughout the rebuild.
The solution
FPC stepped in quickly to get the rebuild going. The fire took out approximately 1500m2 of roofing, and more than 2500m2 surrounding the fire had to be sectioned off so work could be completed – all while production continued seamlessly around the rebuild.
A number of the old building’s steel structural beams and roof columns were badly distorted from the heat, and all needed painstaking replacing. FPC took care of everything from consent applications to project management – working with the architects, engineers, plumbers and other suppliers, to coordinate every element to perfection.
The value: Our fast-acting and understanding team
The FPC team was on-site within just three days of being appointed, ready to get McKechnie Aluminium back in action as soon as possible. We understood the importance of production continuing throughout the rebuild, and ensured every decision took that need into account.
*All work was undertaken with strict adherence to Covid 19 operating conditions and procedures.
