Open Country Dairy needed to increase the capacity of their D2 milk drying tower – and they needed it fast. When First Principles Constructors (FPC) were engaged to lead the structural design and integration of new stainless-steel hoppers and access platforms, we knew it was a high-stakes environment.

When First Principles Constructors (FPC) was engaged to deliver the design and construction of a Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC) building extension within an operational facility in Waikato, we knew we were stepping into a fastmoving, high-pressure environment. Open Country Dairy is a leading player in the New Zealand dairy industry and required delivery within a strict timeframe, leaving little room for upfront planning and no margin for error.

When Fonterra engaged us to replace the façade on the D4 northwest wall, we knew we were facing a complex challenge. The existing façade had significant surface cracking, which was causing weathertightness issues and raising future food safety concerns.

When issues emerged with the D1/D2 Dryer façade, it was clear the solution required a careful, tailored approach rather than a simple replacement.

The DPP2 HVAC plant building, which had reached the end of its operational lifespan, was replaced to maintain consistent reliability. This involved dismantling the existing EPS panel structure and installing a new Kingspan panel building complete with Ardex membrane roofing. Additional improvements included a new duct system and filter banks, an external staircase, a Redline boot exchange, a new exterior door for HVAC access, conveyor covers in the packing room, and enhanced access via a new P5 staircase.
